My hostname is a subdomain; why isn't Cloudflare issuing a certificate?

Cloudflare automatically issues certificates for the root domain and subdomains proxied through Cloudflare. If a subdomain isn't being covered, it's likely due to one of the following: the subdomain record isn't proxied (grey cloud), there's a propagation delay after adding the subdomain, or a misconfiguration of the DNS settings. Double-check that the DNS record for the subdomain is correctly pointing to the server it should and has the orange cloud enabled for Cloudflare's proxy.
