For a simple, cute style, minimal shading is often best. Focus on adding a few areas of darker tone to suggest form. A light shadow under the chin, along the sides of the nose, and on the bottom of the cheekbones can add depth. Use a soft, blended approach to avoid harsh lines. Avoid overly detailed shading as it can make the drawing look cluttered.
