What's the difference between DC Multiverse and DC Direct action figures?

DC Multiverse (formerly DC Icons) is Mattel's mass-retail line, generally 6" scale, with wider availability and more affordable prices. DC Direct (now DC Collectibles) produced higher-end, often limited-edition figures with more detailed sculpts and paint applications, typically aimed at collectors and with higher price points.
