Yes, a corrupted software update file can definitely cause errors. If you suspect this, delete the downloaded update file and try downloading it again. To do this, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If the update has already downloaded, it will show 'Download iOS [version]'. Tap on it and then tap 'Delete Download'. Then, try downloading the update again.
