A DoS (Denial of Service) attack originates from a single source, making it easier to identify and block. A live DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack, however, originates from multiple compromised sources (often a botnet) simultaneously, making it far more powerful, harder to trace, and more challenging to defend against in real-time.
